Welcome to Cafe VI

Beverley School has created it’s very own working cafe called Cafe VI. The cafe is open each Wednesday morning and all classes in school can visit. We also regularly hold parent coffee mornings which are always very popular, and we enjoy raising money for charity, including Macmillan Cancer Research, TFM Cash for Kids and Children in need.

The name of the cafe was decided by our students entering a ‘cafe naming competition’.

Sixth form students work in the cafe as part of their weekly timetable and are responsible for both making the food we sell in cafe and working in the cafe when it is open. This provides valuable work experience for students and also enables them to make progress in many areas, including developing their practical food skills, learning how to keep their working environment clean and hygienic, developing their communication skills, putting their literacy and numeracy skills into practice and developing confidence. Students also achieve accreditation for their work in cafe by completing NCFE units on food preparation, hygiene and safety and customer service. Students are paid for each session they work and receive a wage at the end of each term.

Previous students have enjoyed working in cafe so much they have moved on to Middlesbrough College after leaving Beverley to continue their studies in Catering and Hospitality.
