Vocational Learning: Catering Skills
Working as part of the Cafe VI team students will take an active part in running the school’s cafe by both preparing and selling food. This can involve them making pies, cakes and other dishes to help them achieve the Entry Level 3 basic food preparation and basic cooking units or the combined level 1 unit. Waiting on tables, managing customer orders and helping the cafe run smoothly count towards the customer service in the hospitality industry unit. If students opt to help in Cafe VI for more than one year they will also be given the opportunity to take the food hygiene and safety related unit. Students will also have the chance to visit venues in our local community to learn how they operate to help them develop a greater understanding of the demands of working within the catering and hospitality industry.
