Mission
Empowering Autistic people to lead independent, fulfilling and happy lives.
Vision
An aspirational learning community that celebrates Autism. Where everyone is committed to exploring possibilities and opportunities to develop our students’ potential.
Values
Person Centred
Non-Judgemental
Ready, Respectful and Safe
Our vision is to create personalised learning opportunities based around individual EHCP outcomes and academic progress to successfully prepare our students for life after school. Our curriculum is based around the principles of preparation for adulthood, under the headings of Employment, Friends, Family and Community, Independence and Good Health from EYFS to 6th form. The preparation for adulthood themes are woven through the whole curriculum offer at Beverley. Specific Autism strategies are also embedded in the curriculum to enable communication and independence such as PECS, TEACCH and Attention Autism.
Woven through our curriculum are opportunities to support and develop students’ wellbeing through quality first teaching approaches, such as mindfulness, relaxation and yoga. If more support is identified, we offer specialist provision of psychodynamic counselling ,play therapy , occupational therapy and rebound therapy.
We show respect for everyone and care about our school environment. We set high standards of learning and celebrate the achievements of every student. We value the partnership which exists between our school, our parents, our community and the part we all play in realising our vision.
Beverley School is an all age specialist school for students with a diagnosis of autism and associated learning needs. All students follow the National Curriculum and most will achieve external accreditation, including GCSE where possible, by the time they leave us. We admit some students from reception age and some students may join us at other points throughout the key stages if there is a vacancy. Students also have the option to stay with us after they are 16 if it is felt to be appropriate and many of our students do follow that option.
I believe that our greatest resource is our dedicated team of staff who endeavour to provide the very best in education as well as managing the social and emotional needs of students. Our staff are all trained to meet the needs of children and young adults who have autism and work in close partnership with parents, governors and the local community to provide an excellent educational experience for all.
